How & Why You Must Setup an iOS Legacy + Recovery Contact

Quick & short post, but we wanted to take a moment to remind everyone to be sure you configure & enable Apple’s “Legacy Contact” feature!

It could save you a lot of pain, hassle and heartache down the road; for you and your loved ones.

Basically; all the data on your iPhone and in iCloud is encrypted. What this means is that not even Apple can recover your data. When a loved one passes away, if you do not have this feature enabled, and you do not have their passcode & iCloud Login info (as well as a method to bypass the mandatory 2FA verification!) your loved ones’ data remains untouchable.

All those photos, memories, notes, phone numbers; everything will be 100% unavailable to you if you do not take time now to both document logins & passwords, as well as configure both “Legacy” and “Account Recovery” contacts for each other – your entire family.

A “Legacy” contact is intended to be next of kin and requires a death certificate for verification.

An “Account Recovery” contact is for those (hopefully very rare!) occasions when you accidentally lose and forget your password, are the victim of theft, get completely locked out of your devices, or otherwise somehow lose access to your iPhone or iCloud data.

Calm very strongly recommends you make the time to create a Digital Legacy Document, and top of that list should be both Legacy and Recovery contacts!

Feel free to reach out to us if you need help building your Digital Legacy Document.
